King City gets $11k grant for summer swim lessons

First-grade students in King City will be able to get free swimming lessons this summer thanks to a grant from Chevron.

The company awarded the King City Recreation Department a $11,235 grant that will allow the city to provide the school district’s first-graders with one session of swimming lessons during the summer.

“This generous donation will give all King City first graders the opportunity to learn how to swim or enhance their swimming skills,” said Andrea Wasson, recreation coordinator. “Learning to swim is a life skill and we are
excited to offer this to our community.”

Pool staff will be conducting water safety presentations at Del Rey, Santa Lucia and King City Arts Magnet Schools during the month of May. Each first grade student will be given a voucher that will be redeemable for one session of swimming lessons at the King City Pools during the summer.
