Racers meet adoptable pets at the SPCA for Monterey County

Drivers competing in this weekend’s Monterey Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca stopped by the SPCA for Monterey County Thursday afternoon to meet the adoptable animals.

Together, the SPCA and MAZDASPEED are promoting adoptions by naming the pets after the drivers.

For example, Randy is a 13-year-old Quarter horse named for Mazda racer Randy Pobst. And Tristan is a 2-year-old Labrador named for Mazda’s teen racer Tristan Nunez.

The namesakes went beyond just the Mazda racers to include the race track’s famous Corkscrew (a snake up for adoption) and Sky, a Macaw named for the Mazda Skyactiv technology (photographed in this article with Wildlife Supervisor Jessica Shipman).

Zoom-Zoom is a 1-year-old cat named for the Mazda spirit.

The SPCA for Monterey County is on Highway 68, located across from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

If you attend the races this weekend, the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix, features the Tudor United SportsCar Championship, May 2-4.

The Series was created by the merger of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car and American Le Mans organizations, both of which had a long history of competing at Mazda Raceway.
