Credit card fraud suspect arrested in Capitola

Capitola police arrested a 23-year-old woman they believe has been committing credit card fraud.

Police officers were called to the Rite Aid on 41st Avenue Thursday afternoon for reports of two women buying gift cards with possibly altered prepaid credit cards. Store employees recognized one of the women as a suspect from a previous incident in March in which gift cards were purchased with stolen credit card information.

The women fled the scene in a car and police initiated a traffic stop soon after.

Damaris Sierra Collier, 23, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and unlawful use of credit card information. Police say she’s also on probation out of Santa Clara County. She was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

The other woman was released pending further investigation.
