Salinas Police: Student had gun on campus

Salinas police say a Hartnell College student was arrested after he was seen dropping a firearm from his clothing.

Ivan Fletes, 19, was capture by campus security cameras as he fled the campus Thursday. After confirming his identity and residence, members of the Violence Suppression Unit set up surveillance and stopped Fletes as he was seen leaving his house. He was taken into custody without incident.

Police say they found a loaded firearm in his vehicle as well as a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested and booked into Monterey County Jail on suspicion of weapons possession, marijuana possession and violating probation.
