Five families displaced in Prunedale apartment fire
North Monterey County Fire crews responded to an apartment fire on Pesante Road off Highway 101 Wednesday night, but there were no reports of any injuries.
The fire started just after 10 p.m. in one apartments’ garage. Crews knocked it down by 11 p.m. The main concern was the fire spreading to nearby apartments.
Fire crews think the fire started in the garage and say several explosions followed, which may have been caused by aerosol cans.
Monterey County Sheriff deputies say were on scene making sure people were taken care of and their pets were safe.
CHP was asked to help with traffic control.
Coincidentally, the North County Fire Protection District Station 2 is located 17639 Pesante Rd. The Prunedale Elementary school is also located nearby.
At least one crew from Aromas tri-county fire protection district was on scene.
CALFIRE itself was not dispatched since it was a north county incident.
The American Red Cross is responding to help those families displaced.
