Admission offers for freshman up at UC Santa Cruz
Admission offers were up for the fall freshman class at UC Santa Cruz this year, university officials said.
Admission was offered to 23,176 for the fall 2014 class, the majority — 80 percent — coming from California high schools.
This marks 4,473 more admission offers than the previous year, including 2,894 more offers to state students.
“We continue to primarily serve our California students, and our enrollment goals reflect that commitment,” Chancellor George Blumenthal said.
This year also saw a record number of applications for the freshman class with more than 40,000 received. The overall admittance rate was 56.9 percent, up from 48.6 percent in 2013 but lower than the 60.5 percent in 2012 and 67.9 percent in 2011.
University officials anticipate that of the offers extended, 3,650 freshman students will accept and enroll in the fall. Another 1,200 transfer students are expected. Admitted freshmen have until May 1 to accept their admission offer.
