Santa Cruz man arrested by FBI faces federal weapons charge
A Santa Cruz County man taken into custody by the FBI Wednesday was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of firearms, according to court records.
Giraldo Angelo Sultana was arrested in an early morning raid at his 37th Avenue home Wednesday. FBI agents were assisted by members of the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.
Sultana was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in Santa Cruz County in 1986 and spent six years in prison.
According to federal court records, a confidential source informed the FBI that Sultana had spoken about being in possession of a .45 caliber Springfield XD pistol, an M14 rifle and an AR-10 rifle. The source told the FBI that Sultana had stated that possession of the AR-10 rifle would “cause him to go to prison forever if he was caught with it by law enforcement.”
During the search of Sultana’s home in the Pleasure Point area, FBI agents found a loaded .45 caliber Springfield semi-automatic pistol under a pillow on his bed. An unloaded Springfield .308 caliber rifle was found in the garage, and ammunition for both guns was found in the home. There was also an apparent marijuana growing operation on the premises.
