Beach advisory lifted for Monterey Municipal Beach

Monterey County health officials have lifted an advisory at Monterey Municipal Beach.

Earlier in the week, county officials posted the beach with an advisory because of high indicator bacteria found in samples taken Tuesday.

The latest samples showed bacteria was back to a safe level for recreational water contact based on state guidelines.

Higher levels of bacteria have been associated with the increased potential risk of illness. Rainfall is one source of increased bacterial levels, due to runoff particularly in the area of man-made and natural storm drains such as culverts, streams and rivers.

Health officials advise people not to swim in or have contact with storm drain water.
