Baby dies after being left in car in San Jose

San Jose police are investigating the death of a 9-month-old baby whose father says he forgot his son in his car.

Police responded to a Payne Avenue business Wednesday evening for reports of an unresponsive baby in a vehicle. The boy was pronounced dead shortly after.

The father told police he was supposed to drop his son off at the babysitter’s house before he went to work that day, but he forgot. He parked his vehicle on the street with the child strapped into its infant seat, and went to work. At the end of the day, he returned to his car and found the child unconscious.

The San Jose Police Department Homicide Unit responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. The father has not been arrested, and the case has been given to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for review.
