Salinas police make arrest in September 2012 homicide

Salinas police investigators have arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in September 2012.

Luis Fernando Garcia Espinoza is charged with the murder of 24-year-old Richard Pimentel.

Pimental was involved in a physical altercation with another individual at a convenience store on North Main Street on Sept. 12, 2012. That led to Pimental’s fatal shooting.

Espinoza was identified as the suspect and was arrested Tuesday at a local motel without incident, police said. He was booked at the Monterey County Jail on suspicion of murder, with bail set at more than one million dollars.

Salinas police investigators are still seeking those who may have more information about the shooting. They’re asking anyone with information to call 758-7226.
