Car crashes on bridge in Santa Cruz
Crews are working to move a minivan that crashed through a guardrail near DeLaveaga Park.
Just before noon, dispatchers received a report of a car that had crashed through a guardrail on a bridge on Branciforte Drive near Mill Road.
The male driver was taken to a hospital for treatment. His age and the extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.
The minivan came to rest on water pipes next to the bridge, prompting water department personnel to shut the water down while crews worked to remove the car. A tow truck with a crane had to be used to remove the vehicle from the bridge, and firefighters were working to contain a fluid leak from the van to prevent it from leaking into the creek.
Authorities are investigating the accident as a possible alcohol-involved collision.
