FBI searches legislative office near California state Capitol
FBI agents have searched a legislative office across from the state Capitol, nearly a week after a lawmaker’s arrest on corruption charges.
Mark Hedlund, a spokesman for Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, said Tuesday that the Senate discovered that the small office was assigned to Sen. Leland Yee, a Democrat from San Francisco who faces federal charges there.
Senate officials informed the FBI, which obtained a warrant and searched the site in the Legislative Office Building early Tuesday.
Hedlund says the office contained a desk, computer and several boxes of materials. He says it was used rarely, generally only when aides from Yee’s district office in San Francisco visited Sacramento.
FBI agents searched Yee’s main office in the Capitol last week. He has been suspended while he awaits trial.
