Watsonville man sentenced to 153 years for molestation charges

A Watsonville man was sentenced Friday to 153 years in state prison after being convicted of felony child sex abuse.

Jose Olivas, 54, was convicted in February on 17 charges, including lewd acts on a child and continuous sexual abuse of a child.

The charges stemmed from incidents alleged to have occurred more than 10 years ago, according to his public defender.

Friday, Santa Cruz County Superior Judge John Salazar sentenced Olivas to a 78-year prison term plus a term of 75-years-to-life, to be served consecutively. Theoretically, Olivas would be eligible for parole in 141 years.

Olivas was arrested in Hayward in 2012.
