Highway 68 reopened after fatal accident near Salinas
The westbound lanes of Highway 68 near Salinas are now open again after a fatal accident Thursday morning.
According to California Highway Patrol, a 70-year-old man apparently walked out into the roadway near West Portola just after 6:00 a.m. A woman from Soledad was driving westbound and struck the pedestrian.
Hard closures were put in place at westbound Reservation, as well as the on-ramp for westbound Portola.
At this time, no charges have been filed against the driver of the car. CHP has not released the identity of the man, a Monterey resident. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
No further details have been released at this time.
