Salinas Valley corrections officer sentenced for bribery

A Salinas Valley State Prison corrections officer is headed to prison for three years after being convicted of bribery.

Cruz Aguirre, 28, was convicted of smuggling in drugs and cellphones to inmates at the Soledad prison for monetary profit during a three-month period, Monterey County prosecutors said.

Friday, Judge Mark Hood denied Aguirre’s request for probation and instead sentenced him to three years in prison for violating his position of trust and authority.

The Office of Internal Affairs of the California Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation investigated the case.
