Salinas man convicted of stealing from his roommates

A 26-year-old Salinas man faces up to six years in jail after a jury convicted him of stealing from his roommates.

According to Monterey County prosecutors, George Bunker moved into a Salinas home where he rented a room from two other people. After he moved out several weeks later, the other tenants found several of their old cellphones, a box to a valuable necklace and a box for a Droid cellphone. The phone, the necklace and several other electronics items were missing from their possession.

Bunker had three previous theft convictions, which elevated the current case to a charge of felony theft. He’s also served three prior prison terms, which means he could increase his potential sentence.

Bunker is scheduled to be sentenced on April 17. He faces up to six years in Monterey County Jail.
