CVS Pharmacy in Felton evacuated for potential hazmat situation

Fire fire crews are responding to the CVS Pharmacy on Graham Hill Road Wednesday evening for a possible hazmat situation.

According to Santa Cruz County Dispatch, customers at the store noticed an odd smell and began coughing around 7:45 p.m. One customer reportedly vomited from the odor.

An evacuation of the store was started shortly before 8:30 p.m., after fire crews arrived on scene.

The smell reportedly started in the front of the store, then moved to the back of the store.

UPDATE 03/20/14: County officials determined the smell came from the store’s AC/heater system. The store was temporarily closed to determine the problem with the system. One person did become sick from the odor but didn’t go to a hospital.
