Hollister man drowns in Santa Cruz County
A 19-year-old Hollister man drowned in Santa Cruz County Sunday, according to deputies.
Ricard Beltran was on the cliffs with friends near Panther Beach, between Santa Cruz and Davenport, off Highway 1. Around 2:20 p.m., Beltran slipped and fell into the water, Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Kennedy said.
Friends called 911 and officers from both California State Parks and the Sheriff’s Office responded, but life-saving efforts were too late.
Kennedy said that at this point, the incident is believed to have been a total accident and no foul play is suspected.
