CHP seeking driver involved in hit-and-run near Prunedale Sunday

The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating a hit-and-run accident involving an officer that occurred Sunday off northbound Highway 101 in Prunedale.

Officers say the incident happened when a officer attempted to pull over a driver in an Acura for an alleged speeding violation near Highway 156. The officer pulled her motorcycle behind the gray Acura SUV and activated her code 3 lights, according to CHP spokesman Jaime Rios. The driver of the Acura slowed to 20 miles per hour in the slow lane, then stepped on the brakes, causing the officer to collide with the Acura.

After the collision, Rios said the driver saw the officer on the ground, then sped away.

CHP is now on the lookout for the suspect, who is described only as being a Latino male. The vehicle has a partial plate number of 6PA.

The officer complained of pain at the incident, but no word on the officer’s condition.

CHP asks anyone who witnessed the incident or has further information to call the agency at 831-796-2160.
