Police: Man fires shots at funeral, 2 schools locked down
Two schools in Salinas were locked down Wednesday after reports of a man firing a gun nearby, according to deputies.
It happened on the 18200 block of Damian Way, at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery. That’s where deputies say there were reports of a man discharging a firearm during a funeral. When deputies arrived on scene, they say the man had fled in a white truck.
The suspect vehicle was later located on the 800 block of Rogge Road in Salinas. The immediate surrounding area was blocked off. As a precaution, both Bolsa Knolls Middle School and La Joya Elementary School were locked down.
Officers located Leovardo Campos Edeza, 39, soon after and took him into custody on suspicion of discharging a firearm and being in possession of several ounces of methamphetamine.
Deputies located the firearm in a house located on Rogge Road.
