Castroville mobile home park residents advised to boil water

Residents of the Monte Del Lago mobile home park in Castroville are being advised to boil their water for the time being.

PG&E on Monday had issues that caused a so-called “brown out,” in which the water pumps at the park shut off, the pressure dropped to zero and there was no water in the pipes going to the 300 hookups in the park.

In these instances, the water management company is required by law to notify the state Department of Public Health and send a boil water notice.

Residents are advised to either use bottled water or bring tap water to a boil for one minute before using it for drinking or food preparation until further notice. Water officials will advise residents when the boil alert has been lifted, which they expect to happen within 96 hours.

The boil water notice is a precautionary action put into place until monitoring can confirm that there is no contamination, according to state health officials. This is a standard and necessary procedure since such an incident and low pressures can result in the introduction of potentially hazardous bacteria into the system.
