Shots fired into Watsonville home, woman hit in the leg
A 19-year old woman is recovering following a shooting in Watsonville Monday, according to police.
It happened just before midnight on the 200 block of Carey Avenue. When police arrived on the scene, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper thigh area. Investigators revealed the victim was at her home standing in the kitchen getting something to drink, when several shots were fired at the house. The victim was transported to a Bay Area hospital. Police have not released information on her condition. No one else inside the home was injured.
Witnesses at the scene say they saw two to three people fleeing the area after the shooting, but police have limited suspect information. Officers conducted an extensive search of the area, but they were unable to locate whoever was involved. Police say they have very few investigative leads from witnesses and evidence. The victim is not believed to be involved in gangs, but police say the actions of the suspects appear to be gang-motivated. The investigation is being treated as a gang-related crime.
