San Jose police officer charged with rape

A six-year veteran of the San Jose Police Department is charged with forcibly raping a woman at a hotel in September.

According to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, Geoffrey Graves is accused of raping a woman after he and other officers responded to a call at her home.

Graves and three other officers responded to reports of a domestic disturbance at a home in San Jose in the early morning hours of Sept. 22. Officers determined that the husband and wife who lived there had been drinking, but no crime had occurred. The woman, a hotel housekeeper, told police she wanted to stay at a nearby hotel where she’d previously worked. Graves took the woman to the hotel, according to prosecutors, and she got the key and went to her assigned room.

About 15 minutes later, Graves entered the room, grabbed the woman and took off some of her clothing. Prosecutors say he then forced the woman to have sex with him while she resisted verbally and physically, and left the hotel about 10 minutes later.The crime was reported on Oct. 13, and San Jose police investigated.

“We take enormous pride in the quality of our law enforcement officers in this county,” Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen said. “Although rare, on-duty misdeeds bestow an unjustified blight on the stellar reputation of our hard-working peace officers. The defendant will be held accountable for his unlawful actions.”
