Fatal shooting shuts down Highway 101 in Soledad
One man is dead and another seriously injured after a shooting on Highway 101 in Soledad.
It happened about a quarter of a mile south of Arroyo Seco Road just after 8:00 p.m. Sunday. When deputies arrived, they found a vehicle down the embankment and leaning up against a barb wire fence. Investigators say they found one victim deceased in the front passenger seat. Another was suffering a serious gunshot wound and was transported to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.
During the investigation, deputies learned that a third individual had fled from the vehicle before anyone arrived. Deputies later located this person and brought him to the Monterey County Sheriff’s department. Both surviving witnesses told investigators they were chased by another vehicle and shot at. The victims say they don’t know what led up to the shooting.
