San Jose police arrest husband in cold case murder

Authorities in Santa Clara County say two men face murder charges in the cold case of a woman found strangled in her car 25 years ago.

Prosecutors say David Zimmer of Half Moon Bay was arrested Friday for the murder of his wife Cathy Zimmer who was found slain in her backseat wrapped in a quilt in a San Jose airport parking lot in 1989.

His brother, Robert Zimmer of Santa Clara, was arrested last week on similar charges. Their arrests come a month after authorities released a photo of the colorful quilt.

Prosecutors say an investigation showed the couple was in the midst of separating when Cathy Zimmer was killed as David Zimmer within a month sold their home for more than $225,000 and cashed in two life insurance policies totaling $183,000.

He is due in court next week.
