Madatory Evacuations and Closures in Big Sur Wednesday Update

There are mandatory evacuations and road closures for some residents in the Big Sur area.

The evacuations of Pfeiffer Ridge Road remain in effect and include the following: Sycamore Canyon Road on the south to Clear Ridge on the north Highway 1 on the east and the Pacific Ocean on the west. Tuesday afternoon emergency crews issued an evacuation watch for people living west of Highway 1 between Fernwood and River Inn. Notices are being personally delivered by officers.

The following road closures are still in place: Clear Ridge Road Pfeiffer Ridge Road and River End to Pfeiffer Ridge Road. Highway 1 is open but be prepared as there will be additional traffic due to emergency vehicles.

Affected residents, who need emergency assistance from the American Red Cross can call the 24-hour Client Assistance hotline at 831-320-9989 to speak with a Red Cross caseworker. There is also an evacuation center at Fernwood Resort.
