Arts Council of Monterey County offers grants for nonprofits in need of support for arts, culture projects
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) The Arts Council for Monterey County is partnering with the Monterey County Board of Supervisors to offer grants to nonprofit organizations to support public arts and culture projects or programs.
The grant program is offered in two cycles, spring and fall, and organizations can get one grant of up to $5,000 per year.
The grants are open to nonprofit arts organizations based in Monterey County with a budget of about a million dollars or less for arts and culture projects. They may also be a nonprofit social service organization based in Monterey county with a budget of about a million dollars or less with regular, ongoing arts programs or services that meet the other eligibility requirements.
Universities and colleges can only provide financial sponsorship for one arts program. Grants cannot support the institution's operating costs, but they must be applied to program and overhead costs of the institution.
The grants cannot be used for political or religious purposes, fundraisers for other organizations or causes, capital improvements, buying equipment or real property or projects that are already finished, according to the Arts Council.
An applicant that does not have nonprofit status can use a California-based fiscal sponsor with a federal 501(c)(3) designation to work on a nonprofit project. The projects or programs must be completed in Monterey County within a year of the grant being awarded, and organizations will need to meet reporting requirements for previous Arts and Cultural Impact Grants.
The grants are competitive and will be reviewed by a panel of five community members. The grant applications with the highest scores will be the ones that are complete, accurate and only include required documents. Applicants will also need to show the strength of the organization, quality of the project or program and evidence of unique contributions to the region.
The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. Sunday. To apply, visit the Arts Council's online grant portal here.
