Nearly $28K awarded to south Monterey County nonprofit organizations
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) Nearly $28,000 in grants were awarded to 19 nonprofit organizations in southern Monterey County in December, according to the Southern Monterey County Foundation.
The money will be used for projects, programs and capital projects for residents of King City and the surrounding area.
“There is great need in King City and our surrounding area, our community pulls together though the Southern Monterey County Foundation to make opportunities happen that might not otherwise,” said Jamie Jones, Board Chair. “We are grateful that we can do this, it’s making a tremendous impact.”
The organizations and projects that received the grants include:
- Campaign for the Preservation of Mission San Antonio de Padua- for the retrofit, repair and preservation of the mission
- City of Greenfield's Greenfield Community Science Workshop- to support the Mobile Science Program in King City, San Ardo and San Lucas
- City of King Recreation Department- for Free Swimming Lessons program
- Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries- for homework centers to support child literacy
- Girls Incorporated of the Central Coast- for Growing Together, a program intended to increase communication between girls and their parents or guardians at King City elementary and middle schools
- Hartnell College Foundation- to provide students access to textbooks for classes at the King City Education Center through the South County Lending Library
- King City Boxing Club- to provide positive activities for youth
- Kinship Center- for camps that will strengthen the mental health and social well-being of children and families
- Legal Services for Seniors- to provide no-cost legal services to seniors
- Monterey County Agricultural & Rural Life Museum- to support the 4th Grade History Jamboree
- Monterey County Pops!- to support a new music mentorship program and free public concert
- Partnership for Children- to increase access to medical care for children with serious illnesses and help their families
- Portola Butler Continuation High School- to buy robot kits to teach science, technology, engineering and math
- Rancho Cielo- to help with education and career training for youth
- Salinas Valley Fair- to bring local youth to the Salinas Valley Fair and its STEM exhibits
- San Antonio Elementary School- for a sixth-grade field trip to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose
- Sol Treasures- to give student scholarships for the 2020 Children's Musical Theatre production
- Sun Street Centers- to help furnish the King City Sober Living Room
- Youth Music Monterey- for a free string instruction for South County students
To date, the SMCF said it has beengranted $121,500 for organizations that provide community-based services that improve the lives of residents.
