Highway 1 reopening at Mud Creek and Paul’s Slide Tuesday
BIG SUR, Calif. (KION)
UPDATE 12/3/2019 11:40 a.m. Caltrans announced that Highway 1 at Mud Creek will reopen at 1 p.m. Tuesday and Paul's Slide will reopen by 5 p.m.
Caltrans decided to reopen the stretches of road after the National Weather Service confirmed that storms have passed and crews assessed the road.
Crews will continue to watch the area through the weekend in case conditions change.
PREVIOUS STORY: Caltrans said there will be a temporary closure on Highway 1 at Mud Creek and Paul's Slide over the weekend.
Paul's Slide is expected to close at about 5 p.m. on Saturday, and Mud Creek is expected to close at 9 a.m. on Sunday because of a storm the National Weather Service is predicting in the area.
The gates on either side of Mud Creek and Paul's Slide will be locked, and not even emergency vehicles or Caltrans employees will be allowed through until the area has been assessed and cleaned up. Crews will go out to inspect it after the storm passes.
