Los Banos man killed in early morning Wednesday crash

HOLLISTER, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Hollister-Gilroy officers responded to a deadly crash that occurred on Wednesday morning at approximately 3:55 a.m. on Shore Road, east of Lake Road.

A press release issued by the CHP stated that the crash involved a 1999 Toyota Camry traveling eastbound on Shore road. The speed of the Toyota is unknown. The driver of the vehicle was a 20-year-old male and Los Banos resident.

The second driver, a 67-year-old man from Hollister, was operating a 2020 Hyundai Accent and traveling westbound on Shore Road at 55 miles per hour.

When the Toyota crossed into the westbound lane, the Hyundai hit it head-on.

Emergency crews arrived on the scene and transported the 20-year-old driver to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital with the intent to fly him to Natividad Hospital, but he succumbed to injuries while en route to Hazel Hawkins.

The driver of the Hyundai suffered minor injuries and was taken to Natividad Hospital.

Drugs and/or alcohol were not suspected to be involved in this crash.
