Fourth COVID-19 related inmate death reported at Correctional Training Facility

SOLEDAD, Calif. (KION) The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation reports that a total of 4 inmates at the Correctional Training Facility have died of COVID-19 related causes.

The agency said the inmate died Thursday of what appears to be complications of the virus. This is the 96th death related to COVID-19 in California's prison system.

A total of 417 inmates currently have COVID-19, and 409 of the cases have been reported in the last 14 days. Since the pandemic began, there have been 1,229 cases among inmates.

A total of 178 employees have tested positive since the pandemic began, and 116 of them have returned to work. There are 62 staff members with active cases, and 46 of the cases were reported in the last 14 days.

At the neighboring Salinas Valley State Prison, there are currently 31 active cases among inmates and there has been one death.
