CDC advisory committee to vote Tuesday on who gets COVID-19 vaccine first
ATLANTA, GA (KION-TV/CNN) -- Advisers to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are set to vote Tuesday on the very first group of people who will get a coronavirus vaccine once one gets emergency authorization.
A document obtained by CNN shows the CDC's Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices is scheduling an emergency meeting for Tuesday discussing allocation of COVID-19 vaccines.
Up for discussion is not only who should be the first group to be vaccinated, but also clinical considerations for that group.
Draft recommendations suggest health care workers should be in the phase 1a vaccine allocation group.
Santa Cruz County Health officials previously suggested nursing home residents would also be a part of that first wave of vaccine distributions.
The United Farm Workers Foundation suggested this week that farmworkers should be one of the first groups to be vaccinated as well.
Both Ag Industry and Nursing Home settings have previously been the subject of COVID-19 outbreaks on the Central Coast.
The advisers will also discuss how to monitor safety after allocation of the vaccine, according to the document.
