Gov. Gavin Newsom provides update on wildfires, COVID-19 pandemic

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KION) Gov. Gavin Newsom is providing an update on the state's response to wildfires and the COVID-19 pandemic at noon Monday.

More than 12,600 firefighters are battling 14 major wildfires around the state. Crews responded to 35 new wildfires around the state Sunday, but Cal Fire reports that they were all quickly contained. So far this year, 8,400 wildfires have burned more than 4 million acres.

Around California, there have been more than 846,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19. 16,564 people have died.
