DA’s Office receives reports of venues violating health orders by hosting wedding receptions
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) Under the state's Stay Home orders, wedding ceremonies are allowed to take place, but receptions are not.
Despite that, the Monterey County District Attorney's Office said it has received multiple complaints about venues planning to hold wedding receptions.
Due to the First Amendment, mass gatherings for faith-bases services, cultural ceremonies and protests are allowed to continue, but need to be conducted outdoors while participants wear face coverings and practice physical distancing. Wedding ceremonies are part of that exception, but receptions are not.
The DA's Office said the reasoning behind the order is that receptions pose a high risk for transmitting COVID-19 because it is a social gathering involving members of different households.
“We recognize the sacrifices our community is making during this emergency, and we are grateful to those businesses and individuals who are complying with the public health orders. As our community continues to fight this virus, we must all continue to be vigilant in following the public health orders, staying home when possible, wearing face coverings, and maintaining physical distance when patronizing businesses that are authorized to be open," said District Attorney Jeannine Pacioni in a statement.
