MONTEREY, Calif. (KION) Some businesses are able to reopen on the Central Coast, like dine-in restaurants as well as hair salons and barber shops. But many locals are wondering when gyms and fitness studios will be able to reopen.

Fitness studios are just waiting for the green light from the state before they can start the reopening process. But Monterey Fit Body Boot Camp told KION they’ve already been preparing for a few weeks. They even set up some social distancing spaces so people can come back safely.

The personal training center is holding classes online for now, but the owners and trainers are readying protocols for when they can hold in person sessions, including more frequent disinfecting and socially distant training sessions.

Owner Tony Buck shared with KION what it might look like once people can get back to the studio.

“They’re not moving around. The trainer or coach is not interacting with them as far as being hands on. They’re now going to step outside of their box so this way they’re not in that 6 foot radius,” Buck said.

They’ve already outlined boxes to keep clients and trainers 6 feet apart.

Buck says people are eager to get back to the studio and they’re prepared to make sure it’s done safely.

It’s unclear when gyms and fitness centers will be able to reopen, but answers could come soon. Gov. Newsom said last Wednesday that guidelines for reopening gyms could come out within a week or so.
