State reports 13 COVID-19 cases from Salinas’ Windsor the Ridge Rehabilitation Center
SALINAS, Calif. (KION)
The California Department of Public Health is reporting 13 residents at Salinas' Windsor the Ridge Rehabilitation Center have tested positive for COVID-19.
KION has reached out multiple times to Windsor the Ridge Rehabilitation Center for comment and more information, but they have not responded to our requests.
The state lists the 13 residents as "cumulative positive residents," defined by the CDPH as "laboratory-confirmed positive COVID-19 residents that have been in the facility since January 1, 2020.
This reported increase in cases comes about ten days after the facility reported their first COVID-19 related death to the state. They also had a health care worker test positive for coronavirus, according to the CDPH. The state website shows this is the only skilled nursing facility in Monterey County with a confirmed case of coronavirus.
In late April, the facility confirmed three resident cases of COVID-19.
CDPH said that the data is provided to offer a snapshot of COVID-19 in skilled nursing facilities in California, and does not imply wrongdoing on the part of the facility.
In a previous statement to KION, Windsor said, "please be assured that the facility is adhering to all recommendations of federal and state agencies." They added, "residents who are infected or who are experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19 are kept in isolation."
Windsor said they have been implementing safety precautions for quite some time, including screening employees, conducting daily temperature checks, testing residents and staff and increasing sanitation efforts.
