MONTEREY, Calif. (KION) Monterey businesses are making shopping locally online easier by creating "Shelter in Place Malls."

The City of Monterey said the malls act as an online retail guide.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Thursday that retailers-- such as book, clothing and sporting goods stores-- can begin reopening Friday, but they will be restricted to pick up and delivery options.

Because customers cannot shop in store, the online malls allow them to see what retailers are offering through an online directory that takes them to each business' website or online store.

See the Old Town Monterey's Shelter in Place Mall here and New Monterey's Lighthouse District Shelter in Place Mall here.

Restaurants, which can still only offer delivery and takeout, also have their own directories. Find Old Town Monterey's here and the Lighthouse District's here.
