MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) The Monterey County Board of Supervisors has voted to contribute to create a microloan fund for small businesses owned by immigrants.

The supervisors voted 5-0 in favor of contributing to the million dollar loan fund, according to Supervisor Luis Alejo.

The county will contribute jointly with the City of Salinas to create the small business loan for immigrant business owners who use individual taxpayer identification numbers (ITIN).

The fund is created in partnership with several local organizations, and Alejo said it is the first program of its kind on the Central Coast.
