SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION) Santa Cruz County is hiring several temporary disaster service worker positions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The positions are at shelters in Watsonville and Santa Cruz, and the county is hiring immediately. The county said the positions have varied shifts, extra bilingual pay, training provided and personal protective measures.

The county is hiring shelter hosts and supervisors.

Shelter hosts have a base pay of $19.17 plus a $2 per hour differential. Hosts screen and check in participants, maintain relationships with participants, facilitate the use of amenities, distribute supplies and bedding, coordinate with staff to maintain operations and help serve food.

Shelter supervisors have a base pay of $20.76 per hour plus a $2 per hour differential. Supervisors screen and intake participants, make sure all participants have access to amenities, enforce rules, enforce schedules, prioritize social distancing and Shelter in Place, facilitate necessary exits, contact emergency services as needed, make sure shifts are properly staffed, coordinate staff activities, provide staff feedback and coordinate with other supervisors.
