City of Seaside uses mulch to keep people away from skate park
SEASIDE, Calif. (KION) Seaside City Manager Craig Malin shared a picture showing how the city is keeping skaters away from the skate parks and promote social distancing.
The city spread mulch over the skate park to keep people away while Monterey County's Shelter in Place order is in effect. Under the Shelter in Place order, recreational facilities, such as skate parks, have to close.
"Practice your kick flips at home for now. We'll clean the mulch off as soon as it's safe," Malin wrote on social media.
Other cities have taken similar measures to keep people away from skate parks.
In San Clemente, the city filled one with 37 tons of sand last week after skaters ignored "No Trespassing" signs. Since city officials closed the skate park, they said they saw people go there often, even children with their parents.
