SALINAS, Calif. (KION) Chevron announced that it is committing $100,000 to help the Food Bank for Monterey County as it helps community members struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company said the donation will help with immediate and long-term needs of residents; including those who are elderly, homeless, students or low-income families; who are struggling financially and experiencing food insecurity.

“At the Food Bank, we have always known that it takes a generous community to address the alarming level of hunger in Monterey County. And as the catastrophic effects of COVID-19 are felt, we have been especially
inspired by all the ways that our community continues to support our efforts to provide food and help our community prepare for whatever challenges we face together in the future. Chevron and their employees have always supported the Food Bank which make this very generous gift especially heartfelt,” said Melissa Kendrick, Executive Director of the Food Bank for Monterey County.

The number of people the food bank serves has quadrupled since the pandemic began. To donate to the food bank, visit the website here.
