SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) The Santa Cruz County Health Services Agency confirms that a UC Santa Cruz student has tested positive for coronavirus.

School officials said the student lives off campus and has been self-isolating since being tested. They said the student was last on campus on March 16 and is doing well.

Student Health Service and the Office of Emergency Services are working with health officials to find out if any members of the campus community may have had significant exposure to the student.

"The health and well-being of our campus community is our top priority. The campus is ensuring that this student is getting the care and support that they need. Student Health Services and Office of Emergency Services personnel continue to proactively identify individuals with potential COVID-19 exposure and request that they self-quarantine to protect our community," said Scott Hernandez-Jason, a spokesperson for the university.

The school reminds students, faculty and staff to stay home and call a healthcare provider if they have symptoms of a respiratory illness.

On and off-campus students can call the Student Health Center at 831-459-2591 to get information about self-care, make a telehealth appointment or make an in-person appointment.

Students who have received care off-campus and have tested positive or who have been exposed to someone who has tested positive are asked to notify the Student Health Center to help coordinate care and support.

Employees are asked to use their regular healthcare providers for medical care. If an employee has tested positive for coronavirus or has been exposed to someone who tested positive, they are asked to email their supervisor and the Office of Emergency Services at oes@ucsc.edu.
