MONTEREY, Calif. (KION) A beach advisory has been issued for several beaches around the Monterey peninsula, including Monterey Municipal Beach, Lovers Point Beach and Stillwater Cove.

The advisory was issued because of higher bacteria levels found in samples taken Thursday. The advisory will be in effect until bacteria is at a safe level again.

The bacteria could come from animals, rain runoff, storm drains or human activity.

For more information, call the Monterey Peninsula Beaches hotline at 831-755-4599.
