MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) The Monterey County Health Department confirms that two more coronavirus cases have been reported in Monterey County.

That brings the total number up to 4.

The first two cases were reported Tuesday when the county announced a Shelter in Place order.

According to Karina Rusk with Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System, two cases went through SVMHS. When the patients arrived separately, they were taken to a triage tent outside the emergency room, where it was determined that each one needed to be tested.

Rusk said SVMHS has screened more than 100 people, and 35 of those were taken to the next step of sending the specimens to the county. 33 of the tests came back negative.

One of the patients was asked to self-quarantine, but the other needed to be hospitalized. That person is in isolation in an intensive care unit.

In one of the cases, international travel was involved, but the other person came into contact with or were exposed to someone who had coronavirus outside of the county.

This is a developing story. Keep checking back for more information.
