Two suspects arrested in connection to multiple Greenfield check frauds; Greenfield Police
GREENFIELD, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Greenfield Police announced Thursday that an arrest has been made in connection to a check cashing scheme.
They say that the two suspects are from King City and were arrested Monday following a three-month check cashing fraud investigation.
After their arrests, Greenfield Police say that they were helped by the King City and Soledad police departments to serve a warrant at one of the suspect's King City home, where they found further evidence of fraud.
According to police, between August 4 and September 25 this year, the suspects cashed four fraudulent checks at a variety of businesses in Greenfield. The police investigation stated that they collaborated and came up with false identities to be able to cash the fraudulent checks.
Detectives say that they were successful in efforts to identify the two, and then proceeded to link them to all four of the checks.
Both of the suspects were taken into custody at the Monterey County Jail on check fraud and forgery charges.
The Greefield Police have suggestions for people to protect themselves from fraud. They warn the public to verify the person(s) through multiple forms of identification; scrutinize the check for fraud through inconsistencies or unusual markings; verify the issuing business by contacting them; invest in a check verification system; and stay up-to-date regarding common fraudulent scams.
