(CNN) — Score one for Drew Barrymore’s kid.
During a recent episode of her daytime talk show, Barrymore and singer Christina Aguilera talked about communication with their young children.
Aguilera said that while she’s very open with her children, she tries to find age-appropriate strategies to talk with them about sensitive topics.
Barrymore then shared some of her parenting challenges.
“My daughter wants to wear a crop top,” she said. “I’ll say, ‘No,’ and she’ll go, ‘You were on the cover of Playboy.’”
Barrymore is the mother to daughters Olive, 11, and Frankie, 9, whom she shares with her ex-husband Will Kopelman. She posed for the cover of Playboy in 1995.
Aguilera shares son Max, 16, with ex-husband Jordan Bartman and daughter Summer, 9, with fiancé Matthew Rutle and said her daughter, too, craves a crop top.
“I knew it was coming the day I wore chaps,” the singer joked about the look she sported in the 2002 music video for her single “Dirrty.” “My daughter wants to wear a crop top, too, and I’m just like, ‘Can we just pull it down?’ I see myself doing that.”
When it comes to her daughter, she said “I think I always try to instill in her that certain people out there have good intentions and bad intentions.”
“I don’t want to scare her in one way and be terrified of the world and that everybody’s a bad person because they’re not,” Aguilera explained. “But also I think it’s important for her to have a strong sense of self but also to be very empowered with her body and eventually will be her sexuality. So I want her to just really know herself first.”
