OAKLEY (KPIX) — Police in Oakley gave an update Monday following a shooting outside a house party over the weekend that killed a 16-year-old and left several others injured.

According to officers, a 17-year-old female who suffered gunshot wounds has been released from the hospital. Meanwhile two other shooting victims, a 16-year-old male and a 15-year-old male, remain in the hospital.

Police said Monday that investigators have spoken to multiple people associated with the party or were witnesses, along with sourcing several videos from the neighborhood that they believe are key to the investigation.

“I have received several briefs on this case and the direction it is going in,” Police Chief Paul Beard said in a statement. “I feel confident in the ability and skills of our investigators to bring this case to a positive resolution.”

The shooting happened around 11:10 p.m. on the 400 block of Shannon Way. When police arrived, they found four people injured.

One of the victims, a 16-year-old male, died at the scene. The other victims were taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

According to police, they had been to the home 30 minutes before the shooting for a noise complaint. An 18-year-old at the home told officers she was trying to shut down the party but that kids were still showing up.

Officers offered to help shut the party down, but she declined assistance.

After the officers left, police said they learned from a witness that a group of about 20 to 30 kids showed up at the home. The group went through a side gate after finding the front door was locked.

Not long after, screaming was heard from inside the home and people were seen running out of the front door. About five to six shots were heard in front of the home.

Five 9mm spent shell casings were found. Police continue to search for the suspect.

“The more I learn about this case the more angry and sad I get that a multi casualty event occurred. The fact that it involved juveniles- children, makes it even worse. This does not belong in Oakley, this does not belong anywhere,” Beard said.

“My investigators have my full support to do what they have to do to identify the killer in this case and to get him into custody,” the chief went on to say.

Police also said that several students had walked off the Freedom High School campus Monday due to what they said was “unverified and unvetted rumor.” An investigation has not revealed any information suggesting a threat of violence at any school due to the shooting on Saturday night.
