CAPE CORAL, Florida (WBBH) — A home security camera caught a car crashing into a Cape Coral canal Sunday morning, and then the rescue of the driver.
Video shows the car driving at what looks like a high rate of speed on NW 21st Place, before swerving into a yard, hitting a bump, and landing in the canal.
Neighbors said it came within feet of slamming into a child.
“He was standing right on the edge of the canal and i can only imagine how he’s feeling,” said Lorraine Holder, who lives on the canal.
Holder went to check her security cameras and sure enough, she watched the car land right into the canal in her backyard.
“I was just nervous, I was scared because after seeing the car go completely airborne, I was like okay now this is something serious,” explained Holder.
The driver is stuck in the car for a few minutes as he tries to get around the deployed airbags. A bystander jumps into the canal and helps the driver get away from the car as it sinks into the canal.
NBC2 reached out to the Cape Coral Police Department for information on the crash. There are no reports of injuries.
