ABBEVILLE COUNTY, South Carolina (WYFF) — The South Carolina woman who lost her arms after being attacked by dogs in Abbeville County has been released on bond following a drug charge.

Kyleen Waltman, 39, was booked into the Abbeville County Detention Center this week, according to Capt. Matthew Graham, with the sheriff’s office.

She appeared before a bond judge on Wednesday and was given a recognizance bond, meaning she will not have to pay bail.

Graham said deputies pulled over a car on Monday on Keowee Road near Scoby Road.

He said deputies confirmed that a passenger in the car had active warrants.

When the passenger, Jeffrey Wayne Bond, was arrested, he told deputies he had meth in his pocket, according to Graham.

Graham said during a search of the car, a purse belonging to Waltman was found on the floorboard, and inside the purse were 8.3 grams of meth.

Graham said once Waltman was arrested, deputies found two additional bags of meth, one weighing approximately 5.9 grams and the other 1.3 grams.

According to Graham, Waltman had a total of 15.5 grams of meth, which is considered trafficking weight.

In March, Waltman lost both of her arms after being attacked by three dogs while walking home on Ball Road in Honea Path.

Waltman suffered critical injuries, including having both arms amputated up to the shoulder, her colon removed, and she has undergone numerous skin grafts, according to her family, as documented on a GoFundMe page: gofundme.com/f/jb5xfu-medical-and-financial-help?fbclid=IwAR1x8d1IHbY6dAji5rwhH9qQh6vKc2ROHyyhaPoOsFXctl1Gfj6lRCGWZJc

The latest post on the page from Oct. 4 said that Waltman was continuing to struggle with her recovery as well as with medical costs.

“It’s been a struggle with trying to get everything for Kyleen and having to fight for her Medicaid and disability,” the post read.

The post stated that Waltman had surgery on Sept. 22 and that her insurance was not going to cover the cost of the surgery. The GoFundMe has raised more than $308,000.

“She is really depressed,” the post said. “She (cries) a lot and we don’t know what to do, anymore.”
