FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas (KHBS, KHOG) — A Fayetteville man stabbed an officer inside the Washington County Drug Court offices Tuesday, according to police.

Zachary Seward, 30, is being charged with attempted capital murder.

According to a preliminary police report, Seward drove to the drug court offices on College Avenue and went inside, leaving his car running.

Seward ran into the building and directly into the officer’s office. Witnesses told police Seward yelled that drug court ruined his life and “was going to pay,” as well as claims that people were out to get him and drones were following him.

According to the report, Seward stabbed her with a knife twice in the leg and once at the base of her skull, behind the ear.

Parole and probation officers in the building detained Seward and applied a tourniquet to the officer who was hurt.

She was taken to the hospital, and her injuries aren’t life-threatening.

“The officers there performed very well under a high-stress situation,” Sgt. Tony Murphy said. “That’s what we’re trying to do. And I would just like to commend them for their actions in that moment.”

Seward had graduated from the drug court program in 2018, according to the report. He met with the same officer who he stabbed in the same office.

Seward told police he didn’t decide to stop at the drug court building until he drove by. He said he had been the subject of continuous surveillance by the drug court.
